Voting (and a goldfish hint)

I voted today. The first time I’ve ever gone to vote by myself. I almost didn’t make it. I got this card in the mail, telling me the voting place is at the Florence Filburg Center. "Well!" I thought "I know where that is - it’s in the neighbouring town of Comox. That beautiful waterfront mansion surrounded by gardens that was donated by a family, to be used in the arts. I will go there early with my camera and take photographs of the flowers and the mansion etc. before I step inside the mansion and vote."

Well, turns out I was scheduled to work today, so I realised this morning, that I didn’t have time to get over there and vote. I was trying to figure out a way to get there either before, or after my shift, when it hit me. The Florence Filburg Center is not that mansion in Comox! It’s here in my town, within walking distance!

Can you imagine if I had not been scheduled to work, and I’d taken the bus all the way over to Comox, wandered around the mansion grounds with my camera, wondering 'Why aren't there any people arriving?' Finally wandered into the place and asked "So were do I vote?" ha!

The goofiest thing is, the correct address was written plain as day on a card I received in the mail, telling me the place was in Courtenay. I read it, and dismissed it. I thought "Well I know it’s in Comox, so this must just be a typo. Or maybe they’re just calling Comox, Courtenay for some reason...." It’s a strange thing with me - I get tunnel vision. My brain grabs onto an idea and will not let go no matter what the evidence to the contrary.

Anyway, once I realised my mistake, and understood that I had just enough time to vote before work, I roared around, getting out of my p.j.’s, washing my face, rushing out the door and up through the streets to the place. Only when I got there, did I discover that the card I’d received in the mail was addressed to the former tenent! I got that straightened out, stepped into the cardboard booth, and voted.

Now I'm home from work, and have the t.v. on. I'm not big into politics. Actually I hate politics because I find myself voting for a goof in order to oust another goof. But I have enough interest to keep the t.v. on until all the votes are counted.

At this moment, the bigger goof seems to be re-elected. ThinkI'll turn the sound off.

p.s. my next post will be about my goldfish. It's good news.
