An Introduction
I imagine this blog will be about a lot of things - my thoughts on life, art, and the world in general. Just stuff that is in my head and must be removed.
I've never kept a diary, which is strange to me, because I've always been more comfortable expressing myself through written words, than with speaking. I can easily go for two or three days without saying anything aloud, but there is a constant conversation going on in my head. I like to get these thoughts down on paper (or onscreen). So, I suppose I must admit, I am, in my own way, a jabbermouth - but a silent one. My fingers do most of my talking for me, which is why I have decided to start this blog.
My name is Marian. I'm a writer, and a photographer. I am in love with those two forms of art, and couldn't live comfortably without them. I started with writing non fiction, and I'm now trying to branch into fiction, which hasn't been easy for me. I continue to make the mistake of inserting too much non fiction into the supposedly fiction story. It's a challenge for me to avoid this, but I'm finding it a lot of fun trying. Fiction is fun! You get to use your imagination, and create what didn't exist before. I remind myself of this every time I catch myself digging into my own personal memories when I'm supposed to be making stuff up. ha.
I'm also a poet, and writer of short stories. These two forms are my personal favourite, maybe it has something to do with instant gratification - poems and short stories can be written in a matter of hours or less. I also like the minimalist aspect of poetry. You show a snapshot with a few select lines. I just love that.
Photography is a recent interest for me. I use a digital kodak, and am saving for a much better camera with more options. I take photos of myself, using the tripod and timer, as well as taking photos of the beauty around me. I love nature photographs, and especially, shooting photos of old, crumbling buildings, cool old doors and windows, dingy cellars, graffiti ... you name it, there are endless photo opportunities out there.
I work in many styles in my self photographs - nudes, emotive (showing emotions through body language and/or expression), acting (acting out ideas that spring from my imagination). I'm very comfortable in front of my own camera.
I do other forms of art as well, but I'll leave that for another time. Just wanted to introduce myself. Hi, and welcome to my world.
